Ocean Affairs Council Minister Kuan Bi-ling exchanged views on cooperation in marine education, sustainability and technology with Ninad Deshpande, director general of the India Taipei Association, July 20 at the OAC’s Coast Guard Administration in Taipei City.
Kuan said that India is a major democratic partner in the Indo-Pacific and described Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy and India’s Act East Policy as in alignment with each other. She added that the OAC’s affiliated National Academy of Marine Research signed a memorandum of understanding with India’s National Institute of Ocean Technology in 2024, which has paved the way for expanded collaboration.
The minister also spoke of the serious challenge marine debris poses, and said she looked forward to Taiwan and India joining forces to manage the issue, in concert with other multinational efforts.
In response, Deshpande praised the scale and organization of the OAC-organized 2026 Taiwan International Ocean Forum. The OAC said he also anticipated future collaborations with Taiwan on educational exchanges and the promotion of industrial startups. (POC-E)
