HomeUpdatesPresident Lai calls Eswatini visit a success
President Lai Ching-te said May 5 that his visit to Eswatini deepened the diplomatic ties between the two allies and demonstrates Taiwan’s resolve to work with like-minded countries to uphold the international order.

Lai made the remarks at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport upon returning from a state visit to Eswatini. He thanked King Mswati III, as well as Eswatini’s government and people for their steadfast support of Taiwan, and extended his gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla for her hospitality throughout the trip.

The trip demonstrated the concrete results of Taiwan-Eswatini cooperation, including in energy security, industrial investment, agriculture, smart healthcare, women’s empowerment, and cultural and educational exchanges, Lai said. Such cooperation symbolizes the allies’ friendship and highlights Taiwan’s commitment to working with international partners for greater security, prosperity and progress, he added.

Taiwan has demonstrated that true national strength lies not in making others capitulate but in bringing happiness to all, Lai said. He added that visits between heads of state are a basic right of every country, saying that the external pressures that delayed this trip have showed the international community Taiwan’s firm determination to engage with the world.

Taiwan abides by rules-based international norms and aims to advance mutual benefit and shared prosperity in the global community, the president said, adding that the visit is an exercise of Taiwan’s basic diplomatic rights and shows how the country works with partners to maintain the international order.

The people of Taiwan have right to engage with the world and will not back down in the face of pressure, Lai said. They will continue to uphold the principles of justice and reason and make contributions in a stable and responsible manner while building a better future for all in the spirit of mutual assistance for mutual benefit, he added.
