President Lai Ching-te received a delegation led by Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon May 12 in Taipei City and looked forward to deepened exchanges with the U.S. state in energy, economy, trade and technology.

Lai said the governor’s visit is his second after an initial trip in April 2025 and underscores the importance of Taiwan to Wyoming. Cooperation has risen since the governor took office in 2019, especially in agriculture and education, he added.

In addition to a bilateral memorandum of cooperation concluded last year to jointly develop quantum technology, Lai said the governor would sign pacts with local tertiary and research organizations during this visit to expand partnership in clean energy transition and technological innovation.

Lai expected the two sides to leverage their respective strengths and expand partnership to build a more secure and resilient democratic supply chain against a challenging background of global supply chain restructuring and AI development. He also thanked the Wyoming Legislature for resolutions passed since 2023 to support Taiwan’s global participation and a U.S.-Taiwan trade agreement.

In response, Gordon said his trip will focus on exchange and cooperation in key technologies such as carbon capture, utilization and storage, adding that partnership with Taiwan can demonstrate the economic viability and importance of reaching net zero emissions.

The governor said Taiwan and Wyoming share many similarities, one of which is that their people are both entrepreneurial in spirit and hardworking. Gordon anticipated supplying natural gas and other energy sources for Taiwan’s continued economic development and potential joint construction of infrastructure in the U.S. (SFC-E)
