Investigators are pressuring the detainees to admit guilt despite a lack of evidence, their lawyer has told RT

Three Russian citizens are being held in a detention center in Armenia on accusations of spying for Azerbaijan, even though investigators have failed to present any proof of wrongdoing, their lawyer has told RT.

The young men are former residents of a Moscow orphanage. Two were detained in June 2024 while filming historical and cultural sites in Armenia, while the third was arrested a month later after traveling there to find out why his friends were being held.

According to their lawyers, they were working on a documentary about areas in Armenia that previously belonged to Azerbaijan, filming Muslim cemeteries, mosques and other public sites.

“The prosecution has not presented a single concrete piece of evidence to suggest that the photographs or video footage taken contain any information that could be used to undermine the sovereignty, territorial integrity or external security of the Republic of Armenia,” lawyer Narine Rshtuni told RT.
