Taiwan artists shine at LUSTR festival in Czechia

Three Taiwan artists participated in the 10th International Festival of Illustration and Comics (LUSTR) held Sept. 21-26 in the Czech Republic, spotlighting the country’s vibrant cultural landscape, according to the Ministry of Culture Sept. 27.

With the support of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague’s cultural division and Taipei Illustration Fair, Abei Liu, Austin Tzeng and Likuanzhen displayed their works at the “MetaFest—Festival of Festivals” event. TIF’s curator Andy Yen and chief operations officer Char Chiang also held seminars and workshops to introduce the development of illustration in Taiwan and share their views on trends in the Asia market.

The MetaFest program included works by illustrators from countries worldwide including Belgium, France, Germany and Spain, the MOC said, adding that global recognition for Taiwan’s creative energy was evidenced by the fact that it was one of only two participants invited from Asia for the event.

According to the MOC, organizers of TIF and LUSTR additionally inked a memorandum of understanding Sept. 25 in Prague. Under the pact, the two parties will each recommend three illustrators per year for exhibitions at the other’s festivals, the ministry said, adding that the cooperation will promote Taiwan illustration to Central European countries while simultaneously raising understanding of Czechia’s art.

Established in 2014, the annual LUSTR presents the best of new works from contemporary Czech and Slovak artists. It is a diverse showcase including over 50 selected authors, complemented by competitions, lectures and workshops. (YCH-E)
