The fourth session of the Intensive Smart Agriculture Training Course for African Elites under the African Elite Talent Cultivation Programme kicked off June 22 in Pingtung County, underscoring government commitment to promoting exchanges with its African ally and like-minded countries.
The course was launched by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs in 2023, with 27 trainees from the public and industrial sectors of Eswatini, Congo, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Nigeria participating in this year’s program at the recommendation of the Embassy of the ROC (Taiwan) in the Kingdom of Eswatini and other representative offices in Africa, according to the MOE. The trainees will gain insight into Taiwan’s achievements in agricultural technology and sustainable development.
Among those attending the opening ceremony were Mahmoud Adam Jama Galaal, head of the Republic of Somaliland Representative Office in Taiwan; Relicx Tsempet Shiolban, acting trade commissioner of Nigeria Trade Office in Taiwan; and officials from the Ministries of Agriculture, Foreign Affairs and Education.
The three-week program, running from June 22 to July 12, was jointly designed by the departments of agricultural production; animal science and livestock; plant medicine; and tropical agriculture and international cooperation at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, as well as the university’s General Research Service Center. In addition to lectures, the university arranged site visits and exchanges with local agricultural and livestock industries to strengthen participants’ practical skills, the ministry added.
The MOE said representatives from the MOA will also hold a seminar introducing the Taiwan Technical Mission to facilitate future collaboration between the trainees and the mission after they return to their home countries. (POC-E)
