The Aug. 19-23 visit of a delegation led by Henry Usher, Belize’s minister of the public service and disaster risk management, was sincerely welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the MOFA, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung met with the group Aug. 21 in Taipei City.
In his remarks, Lin noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Belize 37 years ago, the two sides have collaborated on multiple projects, adding that the government has joined forces with Belize University to launch the Taiwan Caribbean Academy to help cultivate talent in the allied nation’s catering, healthcare, nutrition, smart agriculture, fishing and tourism sectors.
The foreign minister said the MOFA encourages domestic enterprises to invest in and purchase products from the Central American ally to deepen bilateral partnership. In response, Usher expressed gratitude for Taiwan’s long-term assistance in advancing agriculture, education and infrastructure and enhancing quality of life in Belize.
During a meeting with the delegation later the same day, Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi said the two countries have made strides in personnel training, public health and women’s empowerment over the last three decades, while Usher expressed hope of further deepening exchanges with Taiwan, the MOFA added.
During their stay the delegates also visited the Executive Yuan, National Academy of Civil Service and Ministry of Education in Taipei City; National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction in New Taipei City; and National Fire Agency Training Center in Nantou County, as well as the 2026 Taiwan Automation Intelligence and Robot Show held Aug. 19-22 in the capital, the MOFA said.
Under the integrated diplomacy policy, Taiwan pledged to advance the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project to benefit the people on both sides, the MOFA concluded. (POC-E)
