The Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Department of Industrial Technology collaborated with 16 Taiwanese businesses to launch the Taiwan Pharma Pavilion at CPHI Japan April 21 in Tokyo.
 
The DOIT said the first day of the three-day exhibition saw the signing of an agreement between the Hsinchu County-headquartered Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Kanagawa prefecture-based iPark Institute Co. The pact is intended facilitate development of innovative drugs and transnational cooperation on key technologies.
 
Deputy Representative Chou Shyue-yow of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan stated that the collaboration between Taiwan and Japan would enable both countries to cement their core roles in the global pharmaceutical sector.
 
The DOIT described iPark Institute Co. as a major Japanese biomedicine cluster that maintains close contact with academia, pharmaceutical companies and startups. Toshio Fujimoto, the institute’s chief executive officer, spoke at the launch and emphasized that Taiwan’s rich clinical resources, robust manufacturing foundation and solid research capabilities make it a partner with great potential.
 
To stimulate further bilateral substantial exchange, the department arranged for 14 Japanese pharmaceutical enterprises to meet their counterparts from Taiwan in a matchmaking event. The Taiwanese delegation also visited Tokyo-based Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. and Fujifilm Biotechnologies, among others, to further deepen links in the industry. (POC-E)
