The 13th Taiwan-Philippines agricultural and fisheries cooperative meeting was held Oct. 16 in the Philippines, according to the Ministries of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs.

During the one-day meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of issues, including joint research on bananas, digital agriculture, prevention and management of African swine fever, and agricultural and livestock product exports from Taiwan.

A memorandum of understanding on livestock and animal husbandry research and cooperation was signed at the event by Wallace Minn-gan Chow, representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, and Corazon Avecilla-Padiernos, resident representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office’s Taipei branch.

Under the agreement, Taiwan’s agencies will expand research cooperation with the Philippine Carabao Center as well as the national agricultural training institute, animal industry bureau and national dairy authority to promote experience sharing and technical and talent exchange.

According to the MOFA, Taiwan and the Philippines have been hosting cooperation meetings since the two sides concluded a pact on agriculture and fishery collaboration in 2005 to ensure food safety through various bilateral projects.

The relationship with the Philippines has made steady progress under the government’s integrated diplomacy approach, the MOFA said, adding that the two countries will continue to expand their partnership to enhance sustainable development for both sides. (SFC-E)
