The Tourism Administration led a delegation comprising 45 representatives from 34 Taiwanese tourism-related associations and businesses to Tokyo April 10-14.
Statistics from the TA shows that 1.5 million Japanese visited in 2025, maintaining the country’s position as Taiwan’s top overseas market. Citing a report released in March by Expedia Japan, the TA said the number of online searches for overseas travel ideas for Japan’s upcoming Golden Week surged 154 percent year over year. The report called Kaohsiung, Tainan and New Taipei cities destinations that offer great value for money.
To capitalize on the increasing demand for international travel, the TA organized Taiyukan 2026 April 11-12 at Akiba Square, setting up more than 40 booths to showcase local airline carriers, travel agencies and major tourist attractions. Performances by Truku musical outfit Malibali Culture and Arts Group gave attendees a taste of Taiwan’s Indigenous cultures.
A business-to-business promotional event that carried out more than 100 matching sessions was held April 13 by the TA to connect tourism operators in the two countries and bring Japanese travel agencies up to speed on government incentive programs.
The TA confirmed that Japanese actor Satoshi Tsumabuki will continue to be Taiwan’s tourism ambassador to Japan this year. Other major promotional initiatives for the year include inviting a selected group of tourists to take part in the 2026 Yehliu Light Tours in June, as well as help arrange production of YouTube videos and TV shows to promote Taiwan’s diverse tourist attractions under the new theme of “Taiwan, Always On.” (SFC-E)
