The Ministry of Education held fairs Aug. 1-9 in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya and Medan to expand higher education exchanges with Indonesia.
According to the MOE, the first event took place in Jakarta and featured 65 colleges and universities. During the opening ceremony, Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia Rep. Bruce Hung said that approximately 19,000 Indonesian students are studying in Taiwan, making it the second-largest source of foreign students in Taiwan.
Given its complete semiconductor supply chain, Hung added, Taiwan offers foreign students access to quality high-tech programs and internships during their studies, as well as employment opportunities post-graduation.
The MOE said Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world and noted that it has a high percentage of young citizens, making it an ideal enrollment market for Taiwanese higher education institutions.
Four Taiwanese universities are in the global top 200 of the 2027 QS World University Rankings, reflecting the quality and global competitiveness of Taiwan’s higher education, the MOE said. Given its track record of public security and free and diverse society, Taiwan is a top choice for international students seeking education overseas, the ministry added. (SFC-E)
