Taiwan will open an economic and cultural mission in Phoenix, Arizona, to foster Taiwan-U.S. bilateral investment in education, the economy, supply chains, technology and trade, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

According to the MOFA, Phoenix has become a large-scale and strategically significant technology industry cluster as Taiwanese semiconductor and related companies expand their investments there. It is a key base for Taiwan and the U.S. to build a reliable and resilient technology supply chain, the ministry said.

The decision was made as a result of ever-closer high-tech industry cooperation between Taiwan and the U.S., the growing number of Taiwanese entrepreneurs and expatriates in Arizona and the surrounding region and increasing interactions between Taiwan and the U.S. state and local governments, the MOFA said.

The ministry added that the office will strengthen ties between Taiwan and the governments of Arizona and Phoenix, enable timely response to needs for investment and operations, and foster cooperation in areas such as culture, education, people-to-people exchanges, supply chains, technology and trade.

Once established, the Phoenix office will become Taiwan’s 14th representative office in the U.S., following those in Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Chicago, Honolulu, Denver, Miami and Guam.

The MOFA will continue to work closely with its Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative offices across the U.S. to further mutually beneficial partnerships and to strengthen exchanges and industry cooperation with local governments, the ministry said. (YCH-E)
