Seven Taiwan troupes are set to feature at the 2026 Festival Off Avignon in France and Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the U.K., spotlighting the vibrancy of the country’s performing arts sector.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the groups chosen for the Festival Off Avignon running July 4-25 are Chun Dance, Kuo-shin Chuang Pangcah Dance Theatre, Seed Dance Company and Dashing Theater, which will perform “Trace of Belief,” “∞ ‒ Infinity Loop,” “Lost Connection” and “The Rite of Spring,” respectively.

At the Edinburgh Festival Fringe taking place Aug. 7-31, the event’s Taiwan Season will showcase “Birthday Party” by Lu Production, “Under Mask” by Mailantia Dance Company, “The Wall” by Seed Dance Company and “Proximities” by LEI Dance Theater.

The MOC added that the pieces focus on issues spanning self-identity, cultural memory, reflections on science and technology, and emotional connection in contemporary society.

At a news conference held June 2 in Taipei City, Minister of Culture Li Yuan said that the Taiwan Culture in Europe program and a Europe-wide human rights film festival have brought Taiwan-Europe cultural exchange to a new high this year. He emphasized that participation in the two festivals will broaden international perception of Taiwan beyond its economic, technological and medical strengths.

The event was attended by Lutz Güllner, head of the European Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan; Josué Serres, director of academic cooperation and cultural affairs at the French Office in Taipei; and Susan Milner, director of the British Council Taiwan.

The MOC will continue to promote the 2026 Taiwan Culture in Europe program, which is holding arts, culture and human rights exhibitions and activities in 10 European countries, the ministry said. It will also host a gathering for Taiwan-France Cultural Award winners to mark the accolade’s 30th anniversary next year, the MOC added. (YCH-E)
