The “Strengthening the Competitiveness of Micro-, Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Face of New Global Challenges” workshop was held June 23-24 in Asunción, Paraguay, under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Organized by Taiwan in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay and Paraguay’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the event brought together around 100 academics, officials and business representatives from Taiwan, Argentina, Honduras, Paraguay and the U.S. The participants discussed global economic challenges, the impact of low-priced imports on local industries, the diversification of supply chains in Taiwan and the U.S., and plans to upgrade Paraguayan businesses.

Around 300 representatives of Paraguayan MSMEs participated in training sessions on the second day to share experience in operations, financing, digital transition and innovative applications, the ministry added.

Ambassador to Paraguay Iván Lee said during his remarks that MSMEs play a key role in Taiwan’s economy, adding that the country will continue to share its experience through GCTF to support business growth in Paraguay.

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Rob Alter emphasized that the U.S., Taiwan and Paraguay will continue to strengthen cooperation to create more substantial benefits for the people of all three countries.

Since its launch in 2015 by Taiwan and the U.S., the GCTF has become a vital platform for like-minded countries to share expertise and foster collaboration. The current workshop helped Paraguayan MSMEs enhance their competitiveness, underscoring Taiwan’s commitment to supporting the economic development and sustainable growth of its diplomatic allies, the MOFA said.
