The Ministry of Culture said that support from its Taiwan Brand Campaign project and the National Museum of Prehistory had played a part in bringing Taiwanese artists to the Australian fair for the first time. The three participating designers, Juan Chih-chun, Sigesile Kalidoai and Yuma Taru, worked with Australian counterparts to create two immersive and innovative fashion shows that ran for four performances July 9-10, the ministry added.
Juan and Sigesile each hosted a workshop July 11, the three designers reunited for a seminar hosted by the NMP and Far North Queensland Taiwanese Friendship Association Inc. in which they shared their experiences of revitalizing traditional craft, the MOC said.
NMP Director Futuru C.L. Tsai noted that contemporary Taiwanese Indigenous clothes simultaneously express a collective history and a living culture that is constantly innovating. He added that CIAF had been a successful showcase of Taiwan’s diverse culture and values.
The MOC said that the museum pledged to continue serving as a key platform to share Taiwan’s rich Austronesian culture through performances, exhibitions and diverse academic exchanges. (POC-E)
