The Ministry of Culture said Paiwan artist Sauljaljui will tour the U.S. and Canada in July.

The singer, with support from the MOC’s Taipei Cultural Center in New York and its Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, is scheduled to perform July 10 at Summer for the City at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, making her the first artist from Taiwan to take the stage since the annual program’s inception in 2022.

The MOC said that Sauljaljui will also take part in the final two days of Sunfest ‘26, which runs from July 9-12 in Ontario, Canada, as well as the first two days of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, running July 17-19 in the western Canadian city.

As a member of the Paiwan tribe in Pingtung County, Sauljaljui integrates elements of traditional folk songs and instrumentation, including the lute-like yueqin. The ministry added that her 2024 album VAIVAIK netted her the Best Indigenous Language Album and Best Arranger awards at Taiwan’s 36th Golden Melody Awards.

The MOC said that Sauljaljui has said that she views every performance as an opportunity to share her hometown with the audience, adding that the musician hopes people will learn more of Taiwan’s diversity through her music. (POC-E)
