Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and Health and Welfare Minister Shih Chung-Liang hosted a dinner for allies’ officials and delegates attending the World Health Assembly May 16 in Geneva.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministers thanked the guests for their unwavering support for Taiwan’s bid to take part in the World Health Organization, and exchanged views on relevant issues. It marked the first time that both ministers campaigned for WHA participation in the Swiss city, the MOFA said.
Lin said the Taiwan Smart Medical HealthTech Expo from May 17-19 on the sidelines of the WHA would showcase achievements in smart medicine, smart technologies and humanitarian aid and demonstrate how Taiwan Can Help and Taiwan Can Lead to expand international health cooperation.
The ministry’s Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project has also helped elevate partner countries’ medical and public health capacities while promoting the concept of sustainable development, the minister added.
Citing the country’s contributions to COVID-19 management and international disaster relief, Lin said Taiwan has the right to engage with the world as a responsible member of the international community. He further emphasized that cross-border cooperation is necessary to construct a healthy, secure and resilient world.
Shih said Taiwan continues to work with allies on medical information development, chronic disease treatment, as well as maternal, infant and mental health. He invited dinner guests to visit the expo and looked forward to their cooperation in building a trust-based digital health system for all.
Palau Vice President and Health and Human Services Minister Raynold Oilouch commended Taiwan for its contributions to allies in areas spanning medical care, infrastructure development, sustainable agriculture and education. He called on the international community to support Taiwan’s engagement. (SFC-E)
