Taiwan’s manufacturing output totaled NT$6.87 trillion (US$215 billion) in the second quarter of 2026, up 27.1 percent from the same period last year, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Aug. 19.
The MOEA attributed the impressive gain, which marked the tenth consecutive quarter of growth, to robust global demands for Taiwan’s electronics and information and communications technology products driven by the artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and cloud service sectors.
A low base of comparison in the same quarter last year and the strong performance of several traditional sectors were also contributing factors, the ministry said.
According to the MOEA, computer and optical products output soared 73.29 percent year over year, followed by the integrated circuit sector at 37.12 percent and electronic components and parts at 33.7 percent. Among the traditional sectors, mechanical equipment and basic metals both registered a double-digit gain, while chemicals and fertilizers increased by 9.09 percent.
While geopolitics and trade friction will continue to impact the global economy, the MOEA expects to see expanding AI applications and continued investment by cloud service heavyweights, as well as increasing AI infrastructure development around the world.
Such positive developments will provide more growth momentum to the local semiconductor, advanced packaging and server sectors, the ministry said. (SFC-E)
