The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Emeritus Michael McCaul, who is visiting Taiwan through Aug. 7.
During McCaul’s stay, which is his third visit to Taiwan, he will meet President Lai Ching-te and other officials and attend a reception hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung. Discussions will center on the cross-strait status quo, regional security and Taiwan-U.S. relations, the ministry said. McCaul will give a keynote speech at the Ketagalan Forum: 2026 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue.
McCaul first visited Taiwan in April 2023 as House Foreign Affairs Committee chair; in May 2024, he led a cross-party House member delegation to the presidential and vice presidential inauguration.
As a member of the House’s Congressional Taiwan Caucus, McCaul is committed to deepen the Taiwan-U.S. partnership. He has advocated for the U.S. government to condemn the PRC Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress in a joint letter.
Recent visits by bi-partisan U.S. Senators and House members highlights firm support for Taiwan. The MOFA is committed to work further with the U.S. Congress to strengthen bilateral partnerships and advance peace, stability and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific. (POC-E)
