Vice Foreign Minister Ger Bau-shuan took part in an event celebrating the Marshall Islands’ 47th Constitution Day May 22 in Taipei City, pledging to continue working with the Pacific island nation to advance bilateral cooperation.
At a reception organized by the Embassy of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the vice minister offered sincere congratulations on behalf of Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and lauded the efforts of the Marshall Islands, Palau and Tuvalu in advancing climate resilience, the blue economy, regional security and public health through the Pacific Islands Forum and other mechanisms.
Ger thanked the country for voicing support for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, such as the U.N. and the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, Interpol, the International Civil Aviation Organization, and the World Health Organization. He also cited the successful visit of a trade and investment delegation, led by Lin as President Lai Ching-te’s special envoy, to the Marshall Islands in April, adding that Taiwan will continue implementing the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project under the integrated diplomacy initiative to deepen bilateral collaboration in agriculture, the economy, energy, fisheries, medical care, trade and women’s empowerment.
Marshall Islands Ambassador Anjanette Kattil said that the two countries share Austronesian culture and the values of freedom, democracy and respect for the rule of law. She thanked Taiwan for its long-standing support of the Marshall Islands’ sustainable development in education, healthcare and infrastructure and expressed hope that the allies can further expand people-to-people and trade exchanges based on their economic cooperation agreement. The ambassador concluded by pledging to continue supporting Taiwan in the international arena.
According to the MOFA, the Marshall Islands is an important Pacific ally. Taiwan is committed to deepening exchanges and collaboration with the Marshall Islands to jointly enhance peace and prosperity and strengthen economic resilience in the region. (YCH-E)
