Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun hosted an interministerial forum on climate change and net-zero emissions Jan. 12 in Taipei City, underscoring government commitment to advancing green energy.
The Executive Yuan said that representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture, Economic Affairs, Environment, Finance, Transportation and Communications, and the Interior, as well as the Cabinet-level National Development Council, National Science and Technology Council, and Financial Supervisory Commission took part in the discussions.
As of the end of 2025, eight offshore wind farms have been completed and 474 wind turbines with an installation capacity of 4.4 gigawatts have been constructed nationwide, the MOEA said.
Cheng requested that the MOEA and related ministries inform businesses of mid- to long-term planning and goals so that developers can keep track of governmental policies and be prepared to allocate resources appropriately.
As the offshore wind power sector is expected to require NT$2 trillion (US$63.2 billion) before 2035, the NDC said that development of the sector has been incorporated into the Trillion NT Dollar Investment National Development Plan as a priority. The council added that it will continue to refine the existing national credit guarantee mechanism, which issued just over NT$37 billion last year, to facilitate the advancement of wind farms by making the process of acquiring funding run more smoothly for businesses.
The FSC briefed the attendees on legal amendments which have also been made to encourage the insurance industry to invest in the sector. The EY said that related mechanisms will also be improved to support the nation’s goal of energy transition. (POC-E)
