US: Shooting at Nashville school leaves three kids dead, shooter also killed

Shooting at Nashville school leaves three kids dead, shooter also killed.

Local authorities in Nashville, Tennessee, have confirmed that three children have lost their lives in a shooting incident at a private Christian school. The shooter was also killed by the police.

The fire department tweeted that there were “multiple patients” from the shooting at Covenant School and that the area was still “an active scene”.

Parents were told to go to a nearby location to reunite with their children.

Sources at Vanderbilt University Medical Center told local and national media outlets that three children with gunshot wounds were brought to the hospital and declared dead.

A reporter for WKRN News 2 shared a photo on social media showing students being escorted out of the school.

The ATF said it was assisting in the investigation.

Covenant School is a school for pre-school to sixth grade students, with about 200 students enrolled. It had implemented an “active shooter” programme last year, according to local reports.

Tennessee’s House Democratic Caucus said it was “praying for the children and their families who were shooting victims at the Covenant School”.

Chairman John Ray Clemmons said: “Our thoughts are with the families of the entire school community and surrounding neighbourhood.”

Nashville mayoral candidate Freddie O’Connell said Nashville had now “joined the communities that have experienced a school shooting”.

Education Week data shows that there have been 12 school shootings in 2023 that have resulted in deaths or injuries in the US as of 23 March.
