9-year-old differently abled child raped, murdered in Pakistan’s Karachi

A nine-year-old disabled child was found raped and murdered in Karachi’s Korangi area on Saturday, after which police detained two people for investigation, police and hospital officials said.

Zaman town police said the child’s body was found from the back seat of a parked Suzuki Cultus. His body was bluish and his mouth was foaming.

The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center to ascertain the cause of death.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said the victim was an otherwise disabled child with a deformity in his right hand. “There were multiple injuries all over the body and the findings suggest anal sexual abuse,” the surgeon said.

The lips were deeply congested and oral swabs were also taken. There was a reddish foam on the nostrils.

“The cause of death and the final opinion regarding sexual assault are reserved for chemical analysis, semen serology and DNA reports,” Dr Syed said.

Korangi-SSP, Sajid Amir Sadozai told Dawn.com that in their preliminary findings, the doctors confirmed murder after rape, but were awaiting the final report.

A senior officer said the boy’s body was found from the back seat of a car in a parking lot. The Zaman town police have collected the evidence, he added. The Cultus car was also impounded for investigation.

SSP Sadozai said that the owner of the car and the parking attendant have been taken into remand.

“The police have started an investigation after registering an FIR and the beast will be arrested soon,” he added.

Dangerous children
This is just the latest case of deadly sexual violence in the metropolis.

Earlier this month, a six-year-old girl was raped and murdered in the Bin Qasim area of the metropolis, sparking protests by local residents. Two suspects, allegedly neighbors of the girl, were taken into custody.

Autopsy findings were consistent with forcible vaginal and anal intercourse.

In November last year, a teenage boy was raped and murdered in Bahadurabad district.

Confirming the incident, the police said “an unidentified and tortured body of a child was found near Alamgir Hospital”. He was later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate and Medical Center for legal proceedings.

In 2022, more than 500 women and girls were sexually assaulted.

The shocking figures were compiled with the help of the records of medico-legal officers stationed at three major hospitals in the metropolis — Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). .
