Mahindra & Mahindra Eyes on Kerala for Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Unit

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers, is in talks with the Kerala government to set up an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing unit in the state. The company is exploring the possibility of establishing a factory to produce electric vehicles, including passenger cars and commercial vehicles, in Kerala.

According to sources, M&M has held preliminary discussions with the Kerala government and has identified a few potential locations for the proposed factory. The company is keen to leverage Kerala’s skilled workforce, favorable business environment, and proximity to major ports to establish a competitive manufacturing base.

The Kerala government, which has been actively promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in the state, is offering various incentives and subsidies to encourage companies like M&M to set up EV manufacturing units. The state government has already launched several initiatives to promote e-mobility, including the creation of EV-friendly infrastructure and offering tax breaks for EV buyers.

If the talks are successful, M&M’s proposed EV factory in Kerala would be the company’s second such facility in India, after its existing plant in Nashik, Maharashtra. The company has already announced plans to invest heavily in electric vehicle technology and has launched several EV models in the Indian market.

The proposed factory would not only generate employment opportunities in Kerala but also contribute to the state’s economic growth and help reduce carbon emissions by promoting the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles. The Kerala government is expected to offer M&M a range of incentives, including subsidies, tax breaks, and infrastructure support, to encourage the company to set up the factory in the state.
