India is gearing up to celebrate the 74th Republic Day on Thursday with great enthusiasm. President Draupadi Murmu will unfurl the national flag at the recently unveiled Kartavaya Path, formerly known as Rajpath, where a grand parade will be held.

Every year, millions of people across the country witness the rich tradition, cultural heritage, and spectacle of national progress and achievements on their television sets. This year’s Republic Day celebration is themed on ‘Jan-Bhagidari (People’s Participation)’.

The main guest of the event is Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi. A 120-member Egyptian contingent will also take part in the show. The Republic Day celebrations are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. and the flag hoisting will be followed by the national anthem.

The show will start at 10 am and will be telecast live on state-run channels – Doordarshan and Sansad TV. Radio listeners will also be able to hear it live.

The procession will start from Vijay Chowk and move towards Red Fort via Kartavaya Path, C-Hexagon, the circular statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg.

As per tradition, President Murmu will address the nation on the evening of January 25 and Prime Minister Modi will greet the nation on the morning of January 26.

All three wings of the Indian Defense Forces – Army, Navy, and Air Force – will march along with their regiments, and bands will perform in the parade, followed by the presentation of state paintings depicting their culture.

Republic Day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Constitution of India was adopted on 26 January 1950.
