Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs François Chihchung Wu attended a reception April 22 in Taipei City organized by the Netherlands Office Taipei to celebrate the birth of the current king of the Netherlands, King Willem-Alexander.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wu praised the friendly relations and the strong cross-party support from the bicameral parliament of the Netherlands, the States General, citing five motions passed last year by the House of Representatives that call on the government to take decisive action to demonstrate its support for Taiwan.

Wu said peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is inextricably tied to Europe’s security, adding that Taiwan welcomes the Netherlands to continue dispatching military vessels to patrol the region and uphold freedom of navigation in international waters.

The close and mutually beneficiary trade ties between the two are exemplified by partnerships such as those between Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. The deputy minister anticipated Taiwan and the Netherlands would expand cooperation and exchanges as joint contributions to the global community.

Bas Pulles, representative of Netherlands Office Taipei, said the nation became Taiwan’s biggest EU trading partner in 2025 and that the two cooperate closely in sectors such as semiconductors, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, quantum technology and the circular economy. He also looked forward to expanding ties in culture and music. (SFC-E)
