The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Jan. 17 in Taipei City that Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tien Chung-kwang is leading a delegation to the Marshall Islands for the presidential inauguration of Hilda Heine.
Tien will represent the government and people of Taiwan as President Tsai Ing-wen’s special envoy at the Jan. 22 inauguration, the MOFA said. During the visit to the northern Pacific Island ally, Tien will express congratulatory messages to the newly elected president and cabinet members and exchange views on cooperative projects with President Heine, Foreign and Trade Minister Kalani Kaneko; as well as with Brenson Wase and Issac Zackhras, who are respectively the speaker and vice speaker of the Nitijela, the country’s legislative body.
Taiwan and the Marshall Islands have long cultivated a deep bond and share universal values of democracy, freedom and human rights. The two cooperate closely in a variety of sectors, including adaptation and response to climate change, food security, infrastructure, medicine and women’s empowerment, the MOFA added.
The MOFA said that the two nations will continue to strengthen bilateral ties and nurture a mutually beneficial partnership. (POC-E)
