Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming hosted a seminar for young trainees set to head for six cities in the Americas, Asia and Europe under the Ministry of Education-organized Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative July 29 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Environment.

In 2026 the MOENV promoted six projects under the initiative, in which 32 young Taiwanese citizens will undertake internships in Boston, USA; Bonn, Germany; Minamata, Japan; Asunción, Paraguay; Rotterdam, Netherlands; and Singapore to engage in exchanges on issues spanning climate change, chemical substance management, environmental governance, international environmental cooperation and resource recycling, the ministry said.

In his remarks, Peng encouraged the attendees to cultivate their global vision and independent thinking, leverage digital tools like artificial intelligence, take every opportunity to deepen transnational cooperation and translate what they learn into substantive ideas for domestic environmental management.

The MOENV said that in addition to arranging visits to various agencies to impart operational insight, the internships will facilitate better understanding of how systems are formulated, how governments tackle problems through policy and how policies are implemented.

To better equip the participants for their internships, they were briefed on current governmental policies and related laws during the seminar, the ministry added. (POC-E)
