Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung received a U.S. delegation led by John Hamre, president and CEO of the Washington,D.C.-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, April 20 in Taipei City. They discussed Taiwan-U.S. partnerships and undertaking bilateral cooperation in a third territory.
Lin noted that Taiwan’s integrated diplomacy encompasses alliance-based, economic, and values-based diplomacy, thus leveraging strengths such as technology and semiconductors deepened substantive partnerships with like-minded nations.
The FM stated that Taiwan is expanding investment in key emerging technologies, both to strengthen local economic resilience and construct a democratic supply chain with international partners. The emerging technology focused on includes artificial intelligence, information security, national defense and next-generation communications.
Hamre lauded the steady development of Taiwan-U.S. ties citing the fact that Taiwan is a major economic and technological partner to the U.S. and holds a key role in global supply chains.
The CSIS delegation is comprised of academics as well as former officials from both the Biden and Trump administrations, demonstrating cross-party concern and support for Taiwan-U.S. ties, the MOFA stated. (POC-E)
