A delegation from the National University of Malaysia visited Taiwan to expand higher-education cooperation, the Ministry of Education said July 24.
Led by Vice-Chancellor Sufian Jusoh, the Selangor-based university’s delegation included high-level faculty and staff. The group visited such institutions as Hsinchu City-based National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and Taipei City-based Ming Chuan University during its July 14-17 stay.
According to the MOE, topics spanning the establishment of dual-degree programs, promotion of short-term exchange visits for faculty and students and organization of joint international academic research were discussed, as were the cultivation and recruitment of talent through collaborations between academia and industry and the advancement of environmental, social and governance on campus.
Delegates and Taiwanese counterparts further addressed issues of relevant advantages and international trends, including ways to integrate bilateral resources to accelerate academic research and drive campus-wide innovation while exchanging practical cases on talent cultivation by engaging with numerous industries, the ministry said.
Nearly 9,000 Malaysian students studied in Taiwan in 2025, placing the country third in the ranking of sources for international students, the MOE said. The ministry added that it is committed to enhancing the internationalization of higher education and encouraging universities to expand their global reach.
The MOE’s goal is to foster partnerships between Taiwan and outstanding higher education institutions worldwide to cultivate the talents of the next generation, the ministry said. In this way, the ministry added, Taiwan’s position in the global higher education network can be solidified and its pool of qualified professionals for a variety of industries will be expanded.
