A bill protecting foreign artworks on temporary loan from seizure passed by the Italian Parliament is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said July 15.
According to the MOFA, the bill aims to facilitate the exhibition of Taiwan’s precious artifacts in Italy while deepening the two sides’ cultural exchanges. The bill was passed by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate in February and July, respectively, the ministry said, adding that it will take effect 15 days after it is signed and promulgated by the President of Italy.
The bill provides clear legal protection for future exhibition of Taiwan’s artifacts in Italy, the MOFA said. Many of the sponsoring parliamentarians further expressed hopes that this legislation would pave the way for exhibitions of the National Palace Museum’s collections in Italy, the ministry added.
Taiwan and Italy value freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, the MOFA said, adding that Taiwan is a bastion of democracy in the Indo-Pacific. The government will continue to deepen Taiwan-Italy cooperation across the board and further consolidate the robust, friendly partnerships between the two sides through artistic and cultural exchanges, it added.
