Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung conveyed sincere condolences to the government and people of Marshall Islands and Iroijlaplap Michael Kabua’s family on the death of the paramount chief, according to the ministry.
Passing away at the age of 81 Aug. 11 in the allied nation, Kabua was dedicated to maintaining and deepening Taiwan-Marshall Islands ties during his lifetime, as evidenced by his multiple visits to Taiwan and the deep bonds he formed across the social spectrum. The spiritual leader was also committed to upholding the Marshall Islands’ ethnic identity, traditional culture and values and was widely recognized for his exceptional contributions to society, the MOFA said.
Kabua’s death is a major loss for both the ally and Taiwan. Taiwan will never forget the paramount chief’s efforts to advance bilateral partnership, the ministry concluded. (POC-E)
