The International Conference on Archives Management—Digital Governance and Smart Services organized by the National Development Council’s National Archives Administration is open for registration from April 20 through May 6, highlighting the government’s efforts to transform archival resources into shared public assets.
Scheduled to take place June 10-11 at the National Archives in New Taipei City, the in-person and virtual event will include keynote speeches, panel discussions, paper presentations and poster sessions, the NAA said.
According to NAA Director Lin Chiu-yen, Trudy Huskamp Peterson, former acting archivist of the U.S., will give a keynote speech on archives management and services in the digital era, which will draw from U.S. experience to explore the past, present and future role of digital tools. Leslie Weir, the librarian and archivist of Canada, will speak about the establishment of Ādisōke, a joint facility that will bring together the two collections of the Library and Archives Canada and the Ottawa Public Library and incorporate community and creative spaces.
Panel discussions with academics and experts from home and abroad will explore issues spanning digital applications and services, ethical artificial intelligence governance, digital transformation and the advancement of digital capabilities, Lin said. Participants will also touch on information security and citizen empowerment amid digital transformation, the director noted, adding that other key issues will be reviewed at paper presentations and poster sessions.
The NAA will work with all sectors to strengthen Taiwan’s digital archives management as the agency transforms archives into publicly accessible intellectual assets that can be sustainably passed down to future generations, the administration added. (YCH-E)
