The 2026 East Coast Land Arts Festival organized by the Tourism Administration East Coast National Scenic Area in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Taitung County Government, is set to open June 21 in Taitung County, highlighting a combination of scenic landscape and rich, vibrant art.

This year’s edition is themed “We are the Ocean,” and will explore the close relationship between humans and the sea in a unique environment offering performances and exhibitions set within nature. Highlights will include work created by Indigenous Paiwan and international artists to be displayed alongside Provincial Highway 11.

The festival organizers will also work with the 2026 Taitung Expo, inviting New Zealand artists to create work to be sited in Green Island. The Moonlit Sea Concert series, a popular festival feature, will be held June 21-22, July 30-31, Aug. 29-30 and Sept. 28-29. Performers include Taiwan singers, bands from Mongolia and Okinawa and Nymphia Wind, winner of the U.S. RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The festival will be complemented by a food and handicrafts market, a series of exhibitions, seminars and tours starting April. In cooperation with the expo, special exhibitions featuring Taitung artists will also be held June 21 at the Douli Visitor Center and June 27 at Taitung Art Museum and surrounding venues.

During the April 17 press conference, TA Director-General Chen Yu-hsiu praised the scale of the festival for meeting international standards and noted that it is one of Taiwan’s most significant cultural events, while Taitung Deputy Magistrate Want Chih-hui recommended the event’s wall-free concerts. The ECNSA stated that in showcasing the breadth of artistic sensibility the festival has created an iconic brand of cultural tourism for Taiwan. (YCH-E)
