The Department of Industrial Technology signed a memorandum of understanding with Poland’s National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) during the 2026 Taiwan Expo in Europe held June 22-24 in Warsaw, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Deputy Economic Minister Cynthia Kiang, who witnessed the signing, said Taiwan is home to advanced chip manufacturing technologies and is a major supplier of artificial intelligence-powered servers, playing a key role in global supply chains, adding that Poland, located in central Europe, is an important strategic partner for Taiwan. The agreement marks an expansion of bilateral ties from trade and economic cooperation to advanced scientific and research collaboration, she noted.

In response, NCBR Director Jerzy Małachowski said both Poland and Taiwan have vibrant startup ecosystems and strong foundations in research. He added that the agreement will facilitate cooperation in digital technology, green energy, medical technology, smart manufacturing and semiconductors, opening a new chapter in Taiwan-Poland relations.

The ministry said a bilateral industrial R&D platform will be established, and a joint call for projects will be launched in 2027 to encourage Taiwanese and Polish companies and research institutions to pursue market-oriented research with global potential.

The DOIT will also provide funding for domestic firms to participate in international innovation cooperation, while Polish companies will be able to access support through NCBR’s INNOGLOBO program.

Given Taiwan and Poland’s highly complementary strengths in AI, drones, electric vehicles, green energy and semiconductors, the MOU is expected to help local companies connect with startup ecosystems in Poland and across Europe and expand global market opportunities, the department added. (POC-E)
