Deputy Agricultural Minister Hu Jong-i attended several events July 1 in Singapore to promote produce and pork products from Taiwan.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Hu attended the opening ceremony of the Taiwan Summer Food Fair running through July 7 at a local supermarket. The promotional event features bananas, Kyoho grapes, mangoes, pink guavas, mushrooms and other food exports from Taiwan.

Praising Singapore as a close trade partner of Taiwan, Hu said the government has introduced a series of measures, including establishing a traceability system and strengthening inspection regulations, to ensure a stable supply of high-quality agricultural products to the city-state.

Tung Chen-yuan, representative of the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, said the Singaporean government swiftly resumed importation of Taiwanese pork products after the country reestablished itself as free of three major swine diseases. The decision reflects the city-state’s recognition of the quality and safety of Taiwanese food products, he added.

The deputy minister took part in another event later in the day at a shopping center to promote premium pork from Taiwan. Hu stressed efforts by Taiwan’s government and pig farmers to ensure disease prevention, feeding management and product safety.

He said the ministry will continue to help domestic pork farmers upgrade their operations and introduce Taiwan’s pork products to the rest of the world. (SFC-E)
