The Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Tourism Administration led a travel industry delegation to Indonesia Aug. 11-17, underscoring government commitment to boosting tourism to Taiwan from Southeast Asia.

The delegates, representing 16 domestic airlines, travel agencies and tourism-related associations, attended a promotional event Aug. 12 in Surabaya. Surabaya is Indonesia’s second largest city, has a growing middle-class population and thus boasts a huge demand for incentive travel, the TA said.

The administration staged a TAIWAN – Waves of Wonder show Aug. 14-16 at Lippo Mall Puri in Jakarta and focused efforts on the area’s younger demographics and upper-middle income Muslims by introducing Muslim-friendly packages from airlines and travel agencies. The TA said that Taiwan has put significant work into creating a more Muslim-friendly environment and cited the country’s high placement on the 2026 Global Muslim Travel Index as evidence of success.

According to the government institute Statistics Indonesia, Indonesians conducted more than 9.16 million trips overseas in 2025, showing its massive potential as a source for tourists. The TA pledged to continue working with Indonesian airlines and travel agencies through both in-person campaigns and digital marketing to enhance Taiwan’s visibility in the Southeast Asian neighbor.
