Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim will lead a delegation to Palau June 6-10 at the invitation of President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. to deepen bilateral ties and demonstrate the two allies’ robust cooperative achievements.
During a press event June 1 at the Presidential Office, PO Spokesperson Karen Kuo said President Lai expressed hope that the vice president and delegation will achieve the three goals of deepening diplomatic ties, helping Palau promote sustainable tourism and witnessing the successes of bilateral cooperation achieved through the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project.
Themed “Palau Prosperity Project,” the visit will advance mutual assistance for shared prosperity, create greater well-being for the people on both sides and jointly promote bilateral and global progress, she said, adding that the delegation includes Vice Foreign Minister Ger Bau-shuan, Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Lin Ching-yi and senior officials from the PO, the National Security Council and other agencies.
Ger said during her first overseas visit to an ally as vice president, Hsiao will meet with Whipps and other key political figures, call at the Palau National Congress and visit the Taiwan Technical Mission demonstration farm, the Palau National Aquaculture Center and Belau National Hospital, among other facilities.
She is also scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony for an infrastructure project built with Taiwanese assistance, travel with Whipps to several sustainable tourism attractions, take part in a welcome banquet by the Palauan government and host an appreciation banquet to express gratitude for Palau’s hospitality, he said.
Additionally, the vice president will engage with the local community and visit local cultural businesses to foster closer interaction and exchanges with the people, the vice minister added. (SFC-E)
