Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming attended Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo (SusHi Tech Tokyo) 2026 April 27, highlighting Taiwan’s prowess in digital transformation and sustainable innovation.

According to the Ministry of Environment, Peng participated in the opening ceremony with Yuriko Koike, governor of Tokyo, and Liisa-Ly Pakosta, Estonia’s minister of justice and digital affairs. He spoke of Taiwan’s advancement of environmental governance through technology and paid tribute to Koike during the event.

Peng said that digitalization and sustainable transformation are common global issues, adding that there is great potential for cooperation between Taiwan, Estonia and Japan. He praised Koike’s promotion of the “Cool Biz” and “Warm Biz” policy during her tenure as Japan’s minister of the environment from 2003 through 2006. The concepts targeted carbon emission reductions from the residential and commercial sectors by encouraging clear, simple lifestyle changes.

Taiwan is enhancing its digital transformation and circular economy in the face of global environmental challenges, Peng said, adding that the government is adopting the AI All In measure to combine artificial intelligence technology and the Internet of Things to achieve 24-hour enforcement of environmental laws. He further shared Taiwan’s methods of establishing a transparent, verifiable and cost-effective resource circulation supply chain through the Digital Product Passport and an associated tracking system.

Peng’s trip demonstrated that Taiwan is committed to combining digital governance and circular economy based on technological innovations while deepening international cooperation to strengthen its environmental governance capabilities, the MOENV said, adding that the country plays a growing role in global sustainable development.
